Hydrant sundial is a performance/drawing and subsequent video documentation that reimagines a fire hydrant as a sundial. In rhythm with the bus that stops nearby, I used clay to trace the hydrant’s shadow over the course of several hours. Every time the bus left the stop, I traced another shadow. The performance became an investigation into the choreography of the urban ecosystem, positioning the hydrant as a time telling device and the bus as a governing celestial body.

In the days following the intervention, the site became charged. The clay drawing was altered by someone or something and the city added utility markings. <3
